Venue History
A note from the owner

Welcome to Clay Theatre! We are the husband and wife team that decided to turn an almost hundred year old movie theatre into a destination wedding venue! It’s been a crazy journey and we are so thankful for all the couples who choose to celebrate their milestones with us and our team!

The venue was thoughtfully designed in a way to give you a clean and modern backdrop for your event design. We saw a need for a unique and historic property that had tons of character and fell in love with the charming town of Green Cove Springs.

We put together a team of event professionals who are ready to serve you in any way they can. Your event’s success is our number one priority!

Let’s talk and see how we can help you have the wedding you’ve been dreaming of!

-Andrea + Daniel Vallencourt

Green Cove Springs

SINCE 1937, Clay Theatre has hosted nights of delight for thousands of visitors. The historic landmark was once a thriving movie cinema and popular destination for tourists visiting Green Cove Springs. The town once known as the original fountain of youth, had natural springs famous for its healing properties.

Theatre History

In the 1940's, the theatre attracted sailors from the nearby Naval Air Station. Taxi cabs and white uniformed sailors would line the street on a Friday night. A local man shared a story of taking his wife on a first date to the movies at Clay Theatre.

The Cove & Clay

The movie theatre was so popular, a second theatre was built directly to the east of the building, called the Cove Theatre. Vintage movie advertisements for "The Cove and Clay" were found in the theatre's safe. The theatre underwent many renovations and continued on as a thriving movie theatre until 2014, when the Clay Theatre closed its doors as a movie theatre. Monuments Men was the last movie shown at Clay Theatre.

The New Owners

In 2017, the historic landmark was purchased by Andrea and Daniel Vallencourt, who made ambitious plans to turn the once thriving movie theatre into a state of the art wedding and event venue.

Construction Begins

Carlton Construction, Basham & Lucas and Micamy Design Studio, were brought on board to complete the project. Renovations to the main theatre began in 2018 along with plans to create a new addition to the building that would include an outdoor courtyard, private dressing rooms, restrooms, and fully equipped catering kitchen.

Grand Opening

Renovations were completed just in time for Clay Theatre's grand opening event on April 18, 2019, and the venue's first wedding was on April 28, 2019, along with 50 scheduled weddings during the first year of business.
